Latest Updates from Our Project:

Happy Valentine's Day!
about 6 years ago – Thu, Feb 15, 2018 at 12:18:44 AM

We here at Blackout Games hope that all of you have a happy Valentine's Day.

In fact, we even got you flowers to celebrate! Well, maybe not flowers, but certainly a plant!

As we mentioned in our Seeds of Evil preview update, the Garluche Plant is the primary driving force behind the expansion. It's an extraterrestrial plant that came to Earth during a meteor shower (as you do) and landed in the Asylum's garden.

On the table, the Garluche Plant is one of the few Horrors that works more as a summoner than a direct threat. As soon as it sprouts in the garden, the players will find themselves overwhelmed by its Podling spawn. It's almost like the Garluche Plant is giving the players its own Valentine's presents (in the form of plant-y death).

Surveys and Store!
about 6 years ago – Mon, Feb 05, 2018 at 01:14:52 AM

The Backerkit surveys have been sent out, and our pre-order store is open for late backers! Tell your friends!

We lightened up the playmats a bit, so you can check those out in the store or your surveys.

We also managed to shave a few dollars off the shipping costs, and as a bonus, adding playmats to your order won't increase the shipping cost

Thanks again for all of your support!

Ghostly Orderly
over 6 years ago – Thu, Feb 01, 2018 at 10:53:26 PM

Hey folks!

As mentioned in the comments, we're working to update some of the art that people were less than impressed with, so you'll be seeing that before too long here.

Today, though, we have the Ghostly Orderly!

Something tells me that's not a friendly ghost...

Let's check out the card!

The Ghostly Orderly isn't particularly dangerous by itself, but it has an amazing purchase effect: when you purchase this gainfully employed ghost, it not only floats off to haunt someone's room but also lures another Monster off to bother someone else. If you end up with a Ghostly Orderly in your room, though, you can use its action in a similar way. Even in death, those orderlies just want to keep everyone in their proper place.

D-Block Patient & Corrupt Administrator
over 6 years ago – Thu, Jan 25, 2018 at 11:35:23 PM

Hey everyone!

How about we look at some new art, courtesy of David Romero?

First up is the D-Block Patient!

Yikes. He doesn't look friendly at all.

The D-Block Patient isn't flashy or even all that tricky, but that doesn't mean that he isn't a serious threat. With high Damage and Health, he's capable of both dealing and withstanding a great deal of punishment. Worse yet, if you don't kill him, he hangs around to keep attacking you next turn!

Still, one has to wonder why the staff would let an obviously deranged patient out of their cell. It's almost as if there's someone let him out on purpose...

Oh, well... I was sort of expecting that to go down the route of "evil scientist" or "occult experiment gone wrong." So who is this nefarious villain who is willing to compromise the safety of the asylum for a few duffel bag full of unmarked bills?

A very helpful Ally, apparently! The Corrupt Administrator is a great card, not only because of her powerful card-drawing abilities (she works great with the Stoic Orderly, who allows you to draw a card when you place an Ally into your Room) but also because her Survive effect is very useful. The ability to discard a Monster or Horror before it can hit your Room and cause you trouble takes a lot of pressure off a player's deck, making the Corrupt Administrator one friend you definitely want to have.

Sinister Psychologist & Reticent Poltergeist
over 6 years ago – Wed, Jan 10, 2018 at 11:59:57 PM

Hey everyone!

We've got some more art to show off!

First, let's take a look at the Sinister Psychologist:

Hmm, I'm not sure if this fellow is entirely trustworthy.

Oh, it's because he's a Monster. I suppose that makes sense.

The Sinister Psychologist is one of my personal favorites when it comes to Monsters. Not only is he reasonably annoying at 2 Damage and 2 Health, at the start of every Battle he hypnotizes one of your Allies and turns them into a Monster for a little while.

If your strategy has been to just purchase the strongest Allies possible, he punishes you in the most direct way possible. On the other hand, if you draw the Sinister Psychologist into your hand, his Action lets you snag an Ally without having to pay for them.

Not every monster has a silver lining, though! Take the Reticent Poltergeist, for example:

That's definitely not the sort of creature you want to see hovering in a dark hallway.

Let's take a look at its card:

The Reticent Poltergeist changed a bit in playtest. Originally, it got stronger if it was the only Monster in your Room, but that just didn't happen quite often enough to make it interesting. Now, it just flat-out punishes players whose decks are stacked with Allies. Worse yet, if you don't kill it, it's going to reappear far sooner than you might expect...
